The Ethiopian Capital Market Administrative Tribunal (ECMAT) is conducting an awareness raising forum with higher officials, judges, and public prosecutors of Somali Regional State.
ECMAT has the mandate to hear and determine appeals against decisions of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) and persons exercising its powers.
Upon reviewing an appeal, the Tribunal may confirm, reverse, or issue any other appropriate decision.
Participants were informed that ECMAT has jurisdiction over disputes involving the ECMA and the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) or other Self-Regulatory Organizations, between the ECMA and market participants, among market participants themselves, and between market participants and their customers or investors.
The Tribunal also handles cases concerning registered public companies, issuers whose securities registration has been denied, and license holders whose permits have been suspended or revoked.
In addition, the Tribunal handles disputes concerning the suspension or delisting of securities by the ESX, as well as claims for compensation from investors who have incurred financial losses due to the actions of capital market service providers or the ESX.
