The Ethiopian Capital Market Administrative Tribunal (ECMAT) conducted a comprehensive review of its 2018 fiscal year performance report and its 2019 annual plan.
To improve access to justice, the Tribunal introduced a Digital Court System, enabling litigating parties to participate in court proceedings and submit evidence remotely from their respective locations.
In addition, to promote consistent legal interpretation among legal professionals, ECMAT prepared and officially launched the Ethiopian Capital Market Guidebook for Judges and Lawyers.
ECMAT also strengthened its role in promoting a sound capital market ecosystem by organizing a total of 18 awareness raising forum. First and second round training programs were delivered to 1,405 participants.
Furthermore, Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) were signed and implementation commenced with the Supreme Courts of the Benishangul-Gumuz, Afar, Amhara, Harari, and Somali Regional States, the Dire Dawa City Administration Appellate Court, and the Somali Regional State Justice and Legal Institute.
These partnerships aim to jointly deliver training on the capital market legal framework and integrate the subject into the curriculum of the justice and legal institutes.
ECMAT also developed and shared a concept note with seven African countries Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, Mauritius, and Zambia to facilitate the establishment of a regional and continental forum of Capital Market Tribunals in collaboration with counterpart institutions across East Africa and the African continent.
During the presentation of the report, it was emphasized that the achievements and institutional strengths demonstrated during the concluded fiscal year should be sustained and further strengthened in the upcoming fiscal year.
